Tropical Tips for the Island Bride

Tropical Tips for the Island Bride

Picking a Location

When picking a location to get ready on your wedding day; keep in mind the tropical humidity and heat. You should pick a site that has ample air conditioning. (Many vacation rentals say they have air conditioning but they’re so small that they don’t cool down the room that you’re in! Be sure to speak with the owner about the effectiveness of their air-conditioner.) If you’re in a hotel room you should keep the doors shut because the air conditioning automatically turns off when the sliding doors are open. Keep in mind when there are several people coming into the room it makes the room warmer, so turn the temperature a little cooler than you normally would. By doing that you ensure that your make up and hair is perfect and you’re not sweating while getting the makeup application. Honolulu makeup artists can then use our techniques and setting sprays and prepare you to last in the tropical climate.

Vacation Rentals

As of July 2019 Hawaii passed a law against vacation rentals. There are some that have been grandfathered in over the years and are legal. All others will have to apply for a permit; and they are only going to grant a minimum number per area. If you have booked a vacation rental; check to make sure that where you are staying is still available and you’re not left without a place to stay!

Making a Schedule

It’s best to let your Honolulu hair and makeup artist professional put together your beauty schedule on your wedding day. By giving the time that you would like to be finished with hair and makeup; your stylist can set your appointment time. Keep in mind you need time to get dressed and if traveling to your wedding; time to get to the car if at a hotel and arrive at the site. Also, many Brides take photos prior to the wedding and that should also be taken into consideration when setting up your appointment time.

Facials and Waxing

It’s important to not get waxing, facials, or any other service days before your wedding. This is especially true if you don’t normally get them. Many people have reactions to different types of products and accidental burns with waxing eyebrows. Make sure that you do all these services in advance to ensure that you don’t have breakouts on your big day. The only services that you should get right before the wedding are your manicure and pedicure and if you’re getting a spray tan that should be done 1 to 3 days prior to the wedding day.

Achieving Your Look

It’s nice to be able to get a trial session prior to your wedding, but if you’re having a destination wedding there’s not always time for that. Also, many brides are on a tight budget and that’s one thing that you can eliminate if need be. Whether you are getting a trial session or not put together photos of hair and makeup that you like and even if they’re different from each other; it lets us know what your style is. That ensures that you look exactly the way you always dreamed you would on your wedding day. Be sure to choose photos of people who have similar features that you have. For example: if you have Asian eyes, don’t choose almond shaped eyes for your make up photos.

Hair Tip

It’s important to have clean dry hair on your wedding day. You should wash your hair the night before if possible or the morning of the wedding if you have a sunset wedding. You don’t want to have dirty hair to work with; we have products to achieve a lasting hairstyle.

Making Services Last

Professional Honolulu makeup artists know how to make your hair and make up last throughout your event. Consult with them about your style and what type of makeup will work best for you. Moisturizers with tint, liquid, cream, full coverage, mineral, & air brush make up can all be made to last throughout the event. One is not better than the other. It is the professional products and techniques that make the difference. We know how to make things last in paradise.

Touching Up

All brides should be equipped with a small touch up kit. You should only need blot papers, translucent powder (I suggest blot powder from Mac), and a touch-up lipstick. Should you forget to buy block papers; toilet paper is a great alternative! By blotting it on your face, it absorbs sweat without messing up your make up. After doing that you can then use your blot powder. This is one of the best tricks/techniques of make up artists. An occasional blot followed by a little powder can make things last until you wash it off! And it’s always nice to have a touchup lipstick. The long-lasting lipsticks can be drying on the lips so they don’t work for everyone. I prefer lipstick or gloss depending on your look and just having some to reapply.
